Only minutes after Manny Pacquiao won his seventh title by stopping Miguel Cotto in the twelve round, questions started to fly – where to now? The The obvious but-not-so-easy answer is a match with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Pacman, as Pacquiao is known, fought a brilliant fight against Miguel Cotto. He knocked the champion twice, with right hook first and then with a left uppercut before the referee came to Cotto`s rescue in the twelve round. Just as gracious as Pacquiao embraced his status as new champion so gracious did Cotto handle his defeat, by saying Manny is one of the best boxers of all time.
Although compared to Henry Armstrong, who held world titles in three-weight divisions, Pacquiao (30) had his doubters before the match. But afterwards his promoter said he was the greatest fighter ever, even better than Mohammed Ali, Marvin Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard.
Pacquiao now holds titles in Flyweight; junior-featherweight; feather; junior-light; lightweight; junior-welterweight and welterweight, a remarkable achievement.
Pacman and Mayweather Jr occupy the same weight division now and it is only a question of time before boxing audiences will demand the “fight of the century.” It is up to Mayweather Jr now to make the move, maybe unlikely as he is known for taking few risks.
If the match was to realize it will surely be one of the biggest fights ever.
