The Proteas saved a little face with a 5-0 clean sweep over the West Indies in the recent ODi series after their disappointing effort in the T20 World Cup.
The West Indies scored 252 for six in their 50 overs and South Africa were in prime position as Hashim Amla, (the Man of the Series) crafted a nice 45 along with Jacques Kallis (57) and JP Duminy (51). They took the Proteas to 157 for three in 30 overs, but then things turned ugly before Roelof van der Merwe (10*) and Lonwabo Tsotsobe (4*) added nine runs in four balls in the last over to win for the South Africans.
Needing only 95 runs to win of 20 overs, the match was turned on his head by an inspired spell of 15 overs that saw the West Indies take three wickets for 58 runs. But Jerome Taylor's untimely injury, Dwayne Bravo's poor death bowling and Kieron Pollard's nervy last over deprived the hosts of any happy endings.
National coach, Corrie van Zyl said before the series started that uniformity of performance will be the biggest goal and if you go by that, he should be pleased with the overall performance by his team. However, there is still a few questions that needs to answered before I believe the Proteas will excel as as a complete team. One of those is what role is Boucher going to play in the future?
Then there is our bowling department that looks a little frail and captain Smith has not fired with the bat at all. The Proteas will take on the West Indies in a three test-match series between the 10 and 30 June, I suppose there is still time for those questions to be answered.
