The German Blitzkrieg has finally been stopped. It appears that they did not have a plan B. The Spanish tactics were simple. Starve them of the ball. Make sure if they do get the ball it is in their own half to ensure that they cannot break out.
The young Germans did not seem to know how to deal with it. For all their possession though, and to the German defenses credit, the Spaniards had all but two shots on target the whole of the first half.
The second half saw them come out with more purpose and eventually their possession and perseverance paid off. The Goal spurred the Germans into action, but alas they were unable to penetrate and grab an equalizer. The ease with which the Spanish were able to neutralize the German all round performance says volumes about their talent and the lack of it in the Argentine and English teams.
The upshot of all this is that the first African Soccer World Cup will crown a new world champion on Sunday in all senses of the word as neither the Netherlands nor Spain have ever won the title. This is a fitting end to what has been a wonderful World Cup on African soil despite the naysayers and the histrionics of the Paraguayan skipper.
