New Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane guided Bafana to a 1-0 victory over Ghana in an international friendly at Soccer City on Wednesday night.
Mosimane, who many thought would with a fresh squad, started the game with nine of the players who started in the win over France in South Africa's final World Cup game.
Ghana were missing several top players including Michael Essien had to make six chages to their side that lost in the World Cup quarterfinals on penalties to Uruguay.
Both teams struggled to get any rhythm going at it was apparent that these sides was still coming off the World Cup hype. After a few passes, runs and failed chances the deadlock was finally broken when Steven Pienaar gave Katlego Mphela some clear air to put away a close-range shot in the 42 minute.
Ghana Started the second half better attacking several times, but poor execution saw them putting only one shot on target. On the hour mark, stand-in captain Asamoah Gyan fired at goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who saved it comfortably.
Mosimane would be pleased with the combination of Mphela and Bernard Parker upfront, however he still a lot needed to do before claiming Bafana as his side.
Many believed he missed an excellent opportunity to move out of the shadows of Parreira by picking his own squad for the future. Maybe Mosimane has a plan, maybe he just took the cautions approach before ringing the chances, but overall an excellent result for Bafana against a top side.
