Jenson Button was crowned world champion of Formula 1 on Sunday when he finished fifth in an incident-filled Brazilian Grand Prix won by Australian Mark Webber. The Briton is now the ninth World Champion in F1 for his country.
The grand prix started with Rubens Barrichello, Button’s Brawn GP team-mate and championship rival, leading from pole. The race saw plenty of drama, first a big smash involving Adrian Sutil in the Force India and Jarno Trulli in the Toyota on the run to Turn 6 in the opening lap. Then a massive shunt for Nakajima, who tried it on with Koboyashi only to lose his front wing and then go airborne into the wall at Turn 4.
A dangerous incident in the pitlane occurred when Kovalainen drove out the pits with his fuel hose still attached. The hose ripped and petrol spewed out of the end and caused a fireball over Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari. Lucky to escape the incident without injury the Finn continued to finish 6 th.
-In Motogp world champion Valentino Rossi is closing in on a seventh title after finishing 2 nd in the Australian Grand Prix behind Casey Stoner.

Manchester United goes top of the table with a win 2-1 over Bolton. Chelsea lost to Aston Villa 2-1 and Liverpool succumbed to a referee blunder and a “beach ball” goal from Sunderland. As it stands Man U leads the title race with Man 19 points followed by Chelsea 21 Tottenham 19 Arsenal 18 Man City 17 Aston Villa16 Sunderland 16 Liverpool 15.

Nikolay Davydenko won his third Masters title with a two-set victory over world number two Rafael Nadal in Shanghai.
