The Blue Bulls reached the final of the Vodacom Cup when they comprehensively outplayed the Sharks XV 33-3 at Loftus, while the Free State did what they had to against the Cavaliers to triumph 22-14 in Wellington on Saturday.
The final will be played at Loftus on the B field next Saturday around 16:00.
It is an opportunity for the Blue Bulls to make amends for last year’s slip-up when they lost unexpectedly to the Griquas 28-19.
The fly half’s of both teams will probably decide the big showdown. The Blue Bulls have a clever player in Francois Brummer. Where he might lack experience in some departments he more than makes up in his ability to dictate the game, shifting back and forth between tactical kicking and ruthless attacking the gain line.
The Free State has Louis Strydom in the no. 10 shirt. Strydom is experienced, has a better kicking percentage in the competition and could turn a game on its head.
The Blue Bulls is so far unbeaten in the competition. They have quality players and should look towards securing the title as 2010 Vodacom Cup champions.
However the Free State, who finished the round stages with five out of seven, could sprung upset if they can hold on to possession and match the Blue Bulls physically.
