The Sharks pulled away from the pack on Friday night, as they recorded their seventh consecutive victory by downing Griquas 48-30 in the Absa Currie Cup competition.

The night belonged to two super talented boys that must be knocking hard on the Springbok door. Young Patrick Lambie scored 23 points for the winning side courtesy of five penalties and four conversions.

Undoubtedly, the star of the match was Bjorn Basson, who ran in four tries that saw the winger set a new Griquas’ Currie Cup season record for tries scored. Basson has taken his season’s tally to 13.

Result:
The Sharks

Tries: Stefan Terblanche, Tendai Mtawarira’ Odwa Ndungane, Monty Dumond, Craig Burden
Conversions: Patrick Lambie (4)
Penalties: Lambie (5)
Griquas
Tries: Bjorn Basson (4)

Penalties: Riaan Viljoen, Olivier

In Cape Town the Cheetahs surprised the Western Province to win 29-24 over the home side.

Defending their line like Trojan horses and deadly counterattacking by the Cheetahs backs eventually took their toll on WP as they lost their second consecutive game. Flyhalf Louis Strydom contributed 19 points through two conversions and five penalties.

Result:
Cheetahs

Tries: Kabamba Floors, Jongi Nokwe
Conversions: Louis Strydom (2)
Penalties: Louis Strydom (5)

The Pumas from Mpumalanga celebrated only their second Currie Cup victory by beating the Bulls 22-21 at the brand-new Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

It was a well-rounded effort from the Pumas as the Bulls produced yet another poor performance. If Puma flyhalf Elgar Watts was on song with his kicking boot the score could have been bigger in the favour of the Pumas as he missed a few easy kicks at goal.

Result:
Pumas

Tries: Christo le Roux, Elgar Watts, Ashwin Scott, Tiaan Meyer
Conversions: Watts
Bulls
Tries: Dean Greyling, Dewald Potgieter
Conversions: Jaques-Louis Potgieter
Penalties: Francois Brummer (2) Potgieter

The mood in the Lions camp must be a bit brighter today as they secured their third consecutive win by thumping the Leopards 45-22 in Johannesburg.

The Lions scored seven tries with flanker Renaldo Bothma and lock Johan Snyman both grabbing grabbed a double each.
The Leopards never looked like competing although they managed to score three consolation tries through scrumhalf Michael Bondesio, fullback Jan van Zyl and flank RW Kember.

Result:
Lions

Tries: Renaldo Bothma (2), Johan Snyman (2), Warren Whiteley, Michael Killian, Jano Vermaak
