The defending French Open champion and current world No. 1 Roger Federer was beaten by Robin Soderling of Sweden in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
The Swede, ranked no 7, is quickly becoming the underdog's champion, the man capable of defeating the top seeds of the sport with a flurry of lightning-speed forehands and devastating serves.
Robin Soderling will face Tomas Berdych in the semifinals after he dispatched of Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-1, 6-2. If Soderling manages to overcome Berdych and advances to the final, he will likely face Rafeal Nadal.
Nadal will be licking his lips for this encounter as he could the regain no. 1 ranking and revenge his loss last year to the Swede at the same time.
The loss ended Federer's historic run of 23 consecutive major semifinal appearances, dating back to 2004. It is an impressive record and might never be broken.
