Roger Federer is seeded no 1 for the tournament & might still be considered favorite to win at Wimbledon this year but the World no 2 ranked player will have figh a few personal demons and outwit a few contenders to win his seventh title and tie Pete Sampras for the most singles titles in the Open Era.
Seven Wimbelton titles might like enough motivation however, Federer mind might not be as strong as it used to be. Two months ago, he lost at the French Open in the quarterfinals, his earliest Grand Slam exit in six years. Then he dropped to No 2 in the rankings behind arch-rival Rafael Nadal. Then came only Federer's second grass-court defeat since 2003 at a Wimbledon warm-up event, extending his drought of nearly five months without a title.
Meanwhile Rafeal Nadal (seeded no 2) have nothing to lose because his no 1 is guaranteed even if he excits early. That makes him a dangerous contender & who could forget that classic five set thriller in 2008 when he got the better of Federer. Many fans and critics still consider that match as one of the greatest matches of all-time.
Then there is Robin Soderling, (Seeded No. 6 at Wimbledon) he dispatched of Federer during at Stade Roland Garros and then progressed to the finals of the French Open for the second year in a row, but just like 2009, Soderling fell one match short of winning his first major. The Swede loves to upset a top seed or two on his way to a major final and his big serve will do real damage on grass.
No 4 seed Andy Murray will once again, bear the weight of expectations from a whole nation on his shoulders. However, the big question is if the Britsh media will take it easy on him this year as the England team is still engaged in the World Cup. Murray has solid groundstrokes and remarkably error free. He has shown that he is able to accommodate a return and has become bigger in size.
Federer knows just how dangerous these opponents can be but will take a lot of heart from his previous match here in 2009 when he defeated Andy Roddick to capture his sixth career Wimbledon title.
"Being one title away from it, you're obviously aware of it," Federer said. "But then again, you have to break it down and make it simple for yourself by trying to win the first round. I'm happy I'm back here playing and healthy, because that's always something sometimes you can't control."
